UE4SS doesn't load
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
No UE4SS.log in Win64 after playing. | UE4SS isn't next to the game's executable. dwmapi.dll and UE4SS.dll must sit in Win64 itself, beside ThugLyfe-Win64-Shipping.exe, not in a subfolder. Go back over step 1 and step 4. |
dwmapi.dll is missing even though you copied it. | Security software sometimes removes DLL loaders. Restore it from your antivirus quarantine or copy it again, then compare its SHA-256 with the official one on the Downloads page. |
| Files are in the right place, still no log. | Make sure you edited the copy Steam actually launches: Steam, right-click the game, Manage, Browse local files always opens it. The free demo is a separate app with its own folder. |
Crashes
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| Crash on start right after installing UE4SS, and you used UE4SS 2.x on this PC before. | Delete xinput1_3.dll from Win64. The UE4SS team warns it crashes the game when left behind. |
| Crash on start with UE4SS installed. | In Win64\UE4SS-settings.ini, set bUseUObjectArrayCache = false. That's the UE4SS team's own fix for start-up crashes. |
| The game won't start after adding the mods. | Check the first line of UE4SS.log says UE4SS - v3.0.1: the mods are built for exactly that version. Make sure only one UE4SS loader is in Win64. |
Crash when quitting: LowLevelFatalError [Line: 428] All UObject delete listeners should be unregistered… | That was NeuralNav 1.0.0. This pack ships 1.0.1, which fixes it. If you still see it, an old main.dll is in place: copy the pack's Mods folder into Win64 again and choose Replace. |
A mod doesn't start
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
The log says Found a mod with enabled.txt but mod has not been installed properly. | The folders are nested wrongly. Each DLL must be at Win64\Mods\<mod name>\dlls\main.dll. Look out for Win64\Mods\Mods\… after copying. |
| No line at all for one mod. | Its enabled.txt is missing. Put an empty text file named enabled.txt back in that mod's folder. |
| UE4SS starts the mod but it does nothing, or the DLL fails to load. | Install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable (x64), then check that mod's section below. |
Beautify + Sun Flares
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| No hint top-left and F6 does nothing. | Check that Win64\Mods\UngodlySciroccoBeautifyFlares\enabled.txt and dlls\main.dll exist and that UE4SS 3.0.1 is installed. Look for [UBSF] lines in UE4SS.log. |
The log says Game is NOT running on DirectX 11. | Remove -dx12 or -vulkan from the game's launch options in Steam. |
| No flares. | Open the Status tab: is a sun light found? Look roughly towards the sun; nothing closer than SkyDepth (500 m) may cover it. Some levels are indoors or have no directional light. |
| Flares show through a thin object. | That object has no collision and physics occlusion is active. Depth-buffer occlusion handles it once the depth check says VERIFIED. |
| Mouse cursor invisible in the menu. | Settings tab, switch SoftwareCursor on. |
| Picture too sharp or too bright. | Beautify tab: lower SharpenIntensity, or set Brightness back to 1.0. Right-click any control to reset it. |
| You want it off without uninstalling. | Press F5, untick Effects ON, or delete enabled.txt. |
| A setting got weird. | Delete its config.ini. The mod writes fresh defaults the next time the game starts. |
UngodlySciroccoThugs
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| Nothing in the log from this mod. | Check the path Win64\Mods\UngodlySciroccoThugs\dlls\main.dll and that enabled.txt exists. |
Input events bound: 0/6 | The game has changed again since this version. Send me UE4SS.log. |
config: unknown setting lines after updating. | You kept an old config.ini. Replace it with the one from the pack. |
| A buffered action feels too late. | Lower its …WindowMs setting, for example AttackWindowMs = 150. 0 means never buffer that action. |
| The Heavy Attack button never buffers. | You use "hold Attack for heavy" in the game's settings, which disables that button in the unmodded game too. |
A line containing INTERNAL FAULT. | One feature switched itself off and the game kept running. Send me the log. |
Questions
- Does any of this change the game's files?
- No. Everything is extra files in
Win64. Delete them and the game is exactly as Steam installed it. - Will the mods survive a game update?
- Steam updates don't remove extra files. UngodlySciroccoThugs reads the button bindings from the game's own records, so renumbered buttons don't break it, and NeuralNav checks the exact game build and stays hands-off if anything changed. If something stops working after an update, check the Downloads page for a new pack.
- Is UE4SS safe?
- It's open source under the MIT licence, made by the UE4SS-RE team, and this guide only links its official GitHub release. The checksums on the Downloads page prove your copy is the official one.
- Can I play online with these?
- Scirocco Thugs is a single-player game, and these are single-player fan mods.
- Does it work with the demo?
- The demo is a separate app. The pack and this guide are for the full game.
- Steam Deck or Linux?
- Only Windows was targeted and checked.
Reporting a problem
Include these and I can usually pin it down quickly:
Win64\UE4SS.logfrom the session where it went wrong.- Which mod, and what you did right before the problem.
- For NeuralNav, a screenshot of F9, Verification.
Never send your whole game folder: the log says everything that's needed.
